DAY 01: SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA
Welcome to Costa Rica! One of our representatives will be waiting for you at the International Airport to transfer you to the hotel in San José. During the trip of approximately 20 minutes they will have the opportunity to review the itinerary and consult about the optional activities available in each of the areas. Suggested: City tour, tour of the main sites of the city of San José and visit to the craft store. Lodging in San Jose.
DAY 02: SAN JOSE – EXCURSION TO THE RAIN FOREST CABLE CAR
D) Twenty minutes outside of San José, we will cross the Continental Divide and enter the Braulio Carrillo National Park. After a half-hour drive, the bus will arrive at the 1,000 acre private reserve of virgin forest. The tour service offers an introduction to the forest, as visitors pass a small river and numerous trees with nesting holes for various birds – the White Falcon is regularly seen here, as well as the Woodpecker and many others.
The Visitor Center provides quick information on exploring the canopy and building the tramway. From this point, visitors are divided into smaller groups where you will observe and learn about nature from one of our trained naturalist guides. Our trails are well groomed and provide a great introduction to the rainforest and a view from the forest floor, just like the tram. Cable cars can carry 5 passengers and a guide. By this means, our guides will show you the different species of trees and birds that inhabit this unique environment. The tram ride takes approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. The tram will take you over the hills and through the canopy, a world full of trees with mosses, ferns and orchids. Lianas and vines perch on the trees attracting birds and insects. The journey will stop several times at charging stations. The return run reveals the most dramatic portion of the tour, as the tram glides through and over the aerial canopy. Lodging in San Jose.
DAY 03: SAN JOSE – RAPID PACUARE RIVER.
D) The Pacuare River is one of the most spectacular treasures among the rivers of Costa Rica, considered one of the five best rivers for rafting in the world for its natural beauty and spectacular rapids. Its waterfalls, its great forests and animal life make this trip an ideal combination to get to know our humid tropical forest. Located on the Atlantic slope, this river borders the Talamanca mountain range, home to the Cabecar natives and unique wildlife in the world. Departing from San José, we will travel through the impressive Braulio National Park Carrillo passing through its cloud forests and variety of waterfalls, crossing the continental divide to the Caribbean sector of the country. We will enjoy a delicious typical breakfast and here we will prepare for the excursion, after which we will move to the private entrance located in the heart of the humid tropical forest. During the next 4 hours, we will travel 25 kilometers enjoying a day of intense emotions by running famous rapids such as Cimarrón, Alto and Bajo Huacas and two Mountains. Once the river adventure is over, we will have time to comfortably change our clothes and enjoy a delicious hot lunch. Lodging in San Jose.
DAY 04: SAN JOSE – ARENAL EXCURSION & BALDI HOT SPRINGS – ARENAL
D) Located in the north of Costa Rica, is the impressive Arenal Volcano, a natural phenomenon that attracts thousands and thousands of tourists due to its permanent, extraordinary volcanic activity. In order to get to this wonder of nature, we move to the north of the country, making a brief stop in the famous town of Sarchí, so well known internationally for its hardworking artisans that give Sarchí renown as The Cradle of Crafts. Continuing our trip we will pass through plantations of various agricultural products, ornamental plants, cattle farms, until we reach the town of La Fortuna to have lunch in a cozy restaurant right in front of the volcano. This excellent location allows us to have the best view from very early in the morning, waiting for the volcano to please the visitors. We will rest in one of the best hot springs in the area, where you can optionally have the opportunity to have a massage or treatment reserved in advance. To close with a flourish, an excellent dinner will be served, always with the best view of the Arenal Volcano. Lodging in Arenal.
DAY 05: ARENAL – EXCURSION TO LA FORTUNA WATERFALL ON HORSE AND KAYAK EXCURSION ON LAKE ARENAL.
D) Appreciate the spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano as you travel on horseback to La Catarata del Río Fortuna, which is 140 feet high. After picking you up at your hotel we will drive to the stable, where you will meet Costa Rican cowboys who will provide you with your helmet and will give you a small horsemanship demonstration - it is important that the guide is aware of whether or not you have experience in riding by horse. The journey is very easy, it takes about 40 minutes through pastures and forests. They will cross two small rivers until they reach the stable where they will leave their horse. From there, they will take a 20-minute walk until they reach the river where they can cool off in its crystalline waters. The return hike is a bit of a challenge, but the reward is the approximately 40 minute ride back. Return to the hotel and later Kayak on the lake: This activity will allow you to enjoy a pleasant morning or afternoon aboard a kayak on Lake Arenal, observing the exuberant beauty that the Lake and the Arenal Volcano offer us. DAY 06: ARENAL – RAPPEL EXCURSION IN WATERFALL.
D) Canyoning is a new branch of sport that became very popular around the world. The vigorous and mountainous terrain near the Arenal Volcano is ideal for the Rappel tour. Combine rappelling with challenging descents into beautiful waterfalls while hiking in the middle of a lush Lost Canyon. Our Rappelling tour is an experience to remember for a lifetime- go where very few have had the privilege to be!!! Imagine yourself in the middle of the jungle in a magical canyon filled with tropical waterfalls with surprises every step of the way. Travel the old fashioned way! You have probably heard of the rocky roads in Costa Rica. Start for fifteen minutes with a fun adventure in our "jungle limousines" and you will go to a quiet mountain community very close to La Fortuna. Prepare to get wet! Your guides will give you an introductory safety talk on important canyoning techniques. You will receive high quality equipment, such as: harness, helmet, gloves and you will start with a small practice in the shortest rappel, this being about 150 feet high. Take a deep rest and breathe! There you are, on a huge platform, ready to descend a beautiful waterfall from a height of 150 feet, waiting for one of the best experiences of your life!!! Start your way along a river sliding between the coolness of several waterfalls, which will get bigger and… BIGGER! We save the best for last! The largest and most exciting waterfall is the last one you'll descend... ending with a fun rappel 200 feet high. The walk back takes about ten minutes, but take your time to enjoy the beautiful rainforest that surrounds you. DAY 07: ARENAL – MONTEVERDE
D) This day you will travel to the mountainous area of Monteverde, which has gained international renown as one of the most outstanding wildlife sanctuaries in the tropics. The transfer will be made through the car-boat-car system, which consists of a land transfer to Lake Arenal, a fluvial transfer across the lake, and a land route to Monteverde; along the way you will enjoy the landscapes. DAY 08: MONTEVERDE – MONTEVERDE RESERVE HIKE EXCURSION – HANGING BRIDGES EXCURSION – CABLE CAR AND ZIP LINES
D) The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is the largest of these protected areas, with more than 10,415 hectares. Here we can find more than 500 species of orchids on the extremities of the huge trees, while lianas, ferns, mosses and lichens fill the rest of the space. The Monteverde cloud forest is home to more than 130 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, including the beautiful Quetzal, 30 species of hummingbirds, 5,000 species of moths, and 3,000 species of plants. It is undoubtedly a paradise for the true lover of nature.
Return to the hotel to then do the Hanging Bridges, Cable Car and Zip Lines excursion: Hanging Bridges in Monteverde that combines trails and suspension bridges, with lengths of up to 300 meters and heights that exceed the forest canopy. The tour allows us to appreciate the richness and diversity of flora and fauna in the area. Our next activity is the Cable Car that goes up to the Continental Division and one of the highest mountains in the Monteverde area, it covers a total of 800 meters from one point to another, lasting 15 minutes and with the possibility of making stops. intermediate for observing the cloud forest. DAY 10: SAN JOSE – INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
D) At the indicated time one of our representatives will take you to the Juan Santamaría International Airport, for your return home.
